Welcome to Keepers of the Reef!

In early 2005 concerned aquarists saw a need for a local Reef club in the twin lakes area. Reef propagation and husbandry have now progressed to being feasible in almost all areas of this great country. Fundamentally we meet to share the ideas, successes and failures seen in our small glass encased worlds.

On a larger scale we protect the worlds reef life by containing it, propagating it and sharing it. Aquaculture of existing stocks multiplies one of the worlds true resources, its reefs while not further damaging its delicate structure.

The Keepers of the Reef has been established to unite these individuals.

The question is much like asking a 6 year old girl, "Do you want a puppy?" the answer of course is an enthusiastic, "YES!". Early on the puppy is exciteing and the center of attention.. Quickly, the new wears off and that same puppy becomes an all to often neglected "DOG". All too often the excited new aquarist overstocks, over feeds and quickly neglects the basic maintainance chores that must accompany the successful reef. Thankfully, rather than the case of the "DOG" our reefs become more beautiful and attractive as time goes on, a very rewarding endeavor. This reward comes at a very high price. More important than money we must invest the time to be proficient at animal husbandry, to maintain balance, a clean environment and most of all we must invest the patience to allow the reef to mature and become successful.
