It's a little bit of a drive. but I like to go to the public shooting range down at Sylamore. I think its about 40 or 45 minute drive, but its a really nice range. and free! 8) I've been tempted to join the twin lakes gun club just so I'd have a close place to shoot....I just don't know if I want to join. :?
It'd be great if the Game & Fish would put a public range in the twin lakes area!

I have heard about that range but never been there. May have to check it out soon as it warms up.

I plan on making a trip there soon. its got a 100 yd rifle range with about 5 or 6 benches, a 200 yd rifle range with 2 benches, and a separate 25 yd (I think) pistol range with several stalls. its a nice facility.

Yes, that is where I go when I have the bug to shoot my guns. It used to have targets but someone thought they needed them more than the range so now you have to bring your own. It is open any time the sun is out, but there is something on Wed. or Thurs. at noon so I just avoid those times. I also am going to have to go soon. I got a Taurus .40 that I haven't got to shoot as much as I like. once I get enough ammo I am gunna go again. last time I went there was snow on the ground. it was too cold!

I second the gun club range. I'm not a current member but will join in the near future. I have been out there and it's a really nice facility. The cool thing is that you get to meet a lot of like-minded folks and see some pretty cool guns. I took my concealed weapon course there back in 2006 and was very impressed with what I saw. Now I want to join so I can do some trap shooting tournaments. :)

I have some old bowling pins that I take down to the Corps property below my house and shoot when I want to do some target practice. I'd invite you over to shoot with me but I just took a new job and am never home. Maybe I will see you at the gun range later this year though!

Also, gun fans, the TLGC Gun Show is coming up March 6th and 7th at the fairgrounds! If you see any good deals on a .357 revolver, DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!!! I need one.

Nothing against the club, it is nice out there, but I am not much for organizaitons. They press you to volunteer etc. etc. I use to shoot in my back yard till I was annexed into the city.
If I have no other choice I will probably join.

I used to be a member of Twin Lakes and shoot competition in ALL Rifle and Pistol USPSA competitions, LOVE the range but, having said that, new regulations have prevented me re-uping this year. If you want to shoot a rifle, you have to be there when there is a Certified Range Official. The pistol range is always open with 3 bays, one of which has steel drop plates. The shotgun range in back for skeet and trap are great if you are one of the Rang Officials because then you can use the automatic throwers. If not you have to bring your own clays and use the hand throwers and you really can't do tha bye yourself because the hand throwers are built into seats. AND if one of the shotgun RO's come out there they ALWAYS give you a hard time. They pretty much ruint the gun club. 2 of my friends that used to be Chairman for the club have resigned due to the bad attitude. So in summary if you ONLY want to shoot pistols....and it's worth $60 a year to you to do that then :gr8: If you want to shoot rifles....Befriend a farmer is my best advice
If at first you don't succeed.....dig in the trash for the instructions!!
